I had the honor and privilege of sharing much of my weight loss journey with a really special girl named Jenna. She had a goal of losing 75 lbs, and we worked our butts off together, quite literally!
Jenna had the crazy idea that we should pack the amount of weight we had lost in a backpack and hike to the top of Spencer's Butte, a somewhat steep and already challenging hike. At that time I had lost 70 lbs, and Jenna had reached her goal of 75 lbs!
It was really hard, but we totally did it!
The experience impacted me deeply. It became very real that for all those years I had been carrying a lot of extra weight that slowed me down, wore me out, and impeded my progress. It kept me from living my fullest life. And while I was just as amazing and worthy and beautiful before, the literal weight of my body had held me back from experiencing so much freedom and joy.
I love the quote "Our life cannot become what we want by remaining who we are!"(Anonymous). To become the next version of ourselves, we have to do things we've never done before, push ourselves, take chances, and get really uncomfortable. I'm so glad I proved to myself that day, and the many days leading up to it, that I am capable of doing hard things. And I am totally worth it!
